How mobility is disrupting ? and revitalizing ? campus networking

The BYOD challenge has largely been addressed, but networking?s wild ride of the past couple of years is still far from over. Attractive new avenues are opening up in pervasive mobility, digital workplace enablement, and simplified management that were hardly imaginable even a few months back.

Michael Dickman, VP of Global Product Line Management for HP Networking, looked at a few of them in a recent Q&A on the dawn of the digital workplace, and he took up the theme again at HP Discover 2015 Las Vegas last week in an interview with blogger Jake Ludington.

How tomorrow moves: the new imperative for the enterprise network infrastructure

By Keerti Melkote, CTO Aruba Networks, an HP company and Dominic Wilde, VP Global Product Line Management, HP Networking

Enterprise IT leaders everywhere are asking for an on-demand IT infrastructure that?s ready to power the mobile-first business apps that define the way we all work and engage with our customers. The expectation from these IT organizations is to create and provision new services rapidly, as business needs dictate, and deliver these services to mobile users without complexity.

Corporate-provided end-user devices connecting to a fixed infrastructure, trying to reach servers that have to be manually provisioned with every new service requirement ? these are clearly things of the past. The New Style of IT demands that this connectivity-based infrastructure transform to be cloud- and mobile-ready so that it can meet the challenges of supporting this new imperative. This is also the fundamental rationale for why teams from HP Networking and Aruba Networks are coming together.

Software-defined Networking solutions pave the path to the cloud

By Derek Howard, Worldwide Service Provider Marketing Manager, HP Enterprise Group

Derek Howard.jpgThe road to becoming a cloud service provider will run more smoothly if you have a network that?s simple, automated and programmable. To fulfill this aspiration, you need the next generation network to support your cloud services. Today that means a Software-defined Network or SDN?a network that?s built for cloud, one that fully embraces the simplicity and agility that open standards enable. To make the most of your new business opportunities, Software-defined Networking is essential. Without it, you?re left depending primarily on hardware and manual processes to provide the functionality needed to support cloud services. And you know that?s a costly, time-consuming approach that?s ultimately just not sustainable. No SDN = No Cloud.

Banking giant turns to HP to upgrade its Cisco-based branch office network

MaryGabra.jpgBy Mary Gabra, Senior Global Manager, Customer Excellence

Will a Cisco-based network run just fine with HP gear? Sure it will. Today I?m adding another example: financial services giant Rabobank, a Netherlands-based cooperative bank with over 10 million customers and 50,000 employees. Read on to see how they did it.

The complementary benefits of SDN and NFV ? a view from HP Discover

By Michael Worlund, Technical Director, Emerging Technologies ? R&D, KEMP Technologies Inc.

Michael Worlund.jpgAs a longtime member of HP?s SDN ecosystem and an AllianceOne partner in the HP SDN App Store, KEMP Technologies is proud to be showcasing our products at HP Discover in Las Vegas this week. We?re seeing a lot of traffic to our SDN and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) solutions. It?s turned out to be a very interesting experience, because those customers that we?ve spoken with see the two synonymously from a benefits perspective.

Leveraging SDN to Prevent CryptoLocker-Type Malware Outbreaks

By Paul Martini, Cofounder and CEO, iboss

Paul Martini.jpgIn the wake of a continuous parade of highly publicized data breaches, many security experts have argued that what?s needed is more malware prevention. While this focus may seem logical, the emphasis on building thicker walls belies the fact that the largest organizations, with the biggest walls, are still being breached. Once you accept the fact that nothing exists that can stop 100% of malware, the next practical step is to try and remove or neutralize the evasive threats that make it past your perimeter defense. It?s important, because should an exploit like the infamous CryptoLocker find its way into your network, it immediately starts accessing shared drives and encrypting any files it can locate, without having to leave your network. The financial goal is realized as it extorts money by demanding a ransom to return your files to you.

Bracing for the Big One: How to be ready for the Internet of Things

by Yanick Pouffary, HP Distinguished Technologist and Chief Technologist, Network and Mobility Services

Yanick-Pouffary.jpgThe Internet of Things is rearing its head everywhere. In some ways, it?s a daunting prospect ? but as usual, great change brings great opportunity.

To take advantage of IoT and not be side-swiped or left in the dust, it?s critical to think ahead. Enterprises need to prepare their infrastructure now for the tidal wave of devices that are coming online. The question is: how? How can your organization get ready to harvest new sources of information that can enable better business decisions, and at the same time continue to conduct day-to-day operations?
