In the wake of a continuous parade of highly publicized data breaches, many security experts have argued that what?s needed is more malware prevention. While this focus may seem logical, the emphasis on building thicker walls belies the fact that the largest organizations, with the biggest walls, are still being breached. Once you accept the fact that nothing exists that can stop 100% of malware, the next practical step is to try and remove or neutralize the evasive threats that make it past your perimeter defense. It?s important, because should an exploit like the infamous CryptoLocker find its way into your network, it immediately starts accessing shared drives and encrypting any files it can locate, without having to leave your network. The financial goal is realized as it extorts money by demanding a ransom to return your files to you.
The Internet of Things is rearing its head everywhere. In some ways, it?s a daunting prospect ? but as usual, great change brings great opportunity.
