3 ways your network is hampering your datacenter ? and how SDN can help you move forward

By Ahmad Zamer, Senior Global Product Marketing Manager, HP Networking

Ahmed Zamer.pngI recently returned from HP Discover 2015 in Las Vegas, where I was struck by the consistency of the conversations I had with network leaders about Software-defined Networking (SDN).

For the first time, I heard people using the kinds of descriptions that HP has been using for quite a while when talking about challenges in the data center. Historically, IT leaders have described the difficulties they?re facing without directly relating them to the network. But now people are able to see that the networking component of the data center is becoming an obstacle to progress, or at least a significant constraint.

Here are some examples of the kind of comments I was hearing. Do any of these sound familiar?

How tomorrow moves: the new imperative for the enterprise network infrastructure

By Keerti Melkote, CTO Aruba Networks, an HP company and Dominic Wilde, VP Global Product Line Management, HP Networking

Enterprise IT leaders everywhere are asking for an on-demand IT infrastructure that?s ready to power the mobile-first business apps that define the way we all work and engage with our customers. The expectation from these IT organizations is to create and provision new services rapidly, as business needs dictate, and deliver these services to mobile users without complexity.

Corporate-provided end-user devices connecting to a fixed infrastructure, trying to reach servers that have to be manually provisioned with every new service requirement ? these are clearly things of the past. The New Style of IT demands that this connectivity-based infrastructure transform to be cloud- and mobile-ready so that it can meet the challenges of supporting this new imperative. This is also the fundamental rationale for why teams from HP Networking and Aruba Networks are coming together.

Defining the business value of SDI/SDN

Software-defined Networking is a cutting-edge technology poised on the brink of mainstream adoption, yet it's actually a bit of a latecomer to the wider realm of Software-defined Infrastructure. SDI is an umbrella term for industrial-strength applications ? for compute, storage and networking ? that are capable of controlling the components of today?s data center via virtualization.

What are the business benefits that software-defined approaches can offer? Michael Zhu, HP?s Senior Director of Global Solutions and Alliances, explains in the video below.

Cisco still trying to play catch-up in SDN

By Gloria Caughlin, HP Competitive Marketing

Gloria_Caughlin.jpgLast week at its Cisco Live conference, Cisco announced ?new SDN capabilities.? After unravelling the announcement it?s clear that there was nothing revolutionary or game-changing about it. Cisco claims that they offer ?the most open portfolio and broadest choice of SDN solutions.? Sorry Cisco, but HP has the most open portfolio of networking and SDN solutions, and this has been HP?s consistent strategy for five years.
