Now 20 great apps for your network at the HP SDN App Store

By Hamid Lalani, HP Networking SDN GPLM

Hamid Lalani.jpgWhen we went live with the HP SDN App Store last October, we were starting out with 5 great apps. We now have 3 apps from HP; 10 validated partner apps (and we?re expecting two more to be uploaded by HP Discover, June 2-4); and 7 community apps, making a grand total of 20 today. They?re all available right now for download. Additionally, we have 3 concept apps that I would put in the ?coming soon? category.

That?s impressive progress in just a few short months, and it points towards two major stakeholders in this Software-defined Networking ecosystem.

Network Disaggregation: It's about customers, not boxes

By Ahmad Zamer, Sr. Global Product Marketing Manager, HP Networking

Ahmed Zamer.pngAfter being frozen in time for long years, the networking industry is now seeing sweeping changes that will shape the future of data center networking. In particular, the emergence of web-scale IT has given birth to one of the most exciting trends in networking: network disaggregation.

Baked goods giant cooks up sweet success with SDN from HP Networking

By Mary Gabra, Senior Global Manager, Customer Excellence

Mary Gabra.jpgIf you enjoy eating pies and pastries ? and who doesn?t? ? you?ll love this story. The Bama Companies is a top manufacturer of frozen dough products globally. They produce one million pies and two million biscuits every day!

The company supplies goods to the world?s largest restaurant chains. Those pies and fresh biscuits we love to eat in fast food restaurants? They?re mostly Bama?s. With eight massive production plants?four in the United States, and four international locations ? coordinating the logistics to produce millions of baked goods each day takes careful tracking of deliveries and inventory. Guess what? This production runs on HP?s converged infrastructure. And Bama is really leading the pack in its industry in networking, too, by embracing software-defined networking (SDN) to gain a competitive edge.

Software-defined Networking solutions pave the path to the cloud

By Derek Howard, Worldwide Service Provider Marketing Manager, HP Enterprise Group

Derek Howard.jpgThe road to becoming a cloud service provider will run more smoothly if you have a network that?s simple, automated and programmable. To fulfill this aspiration, you need the next generation network to support your cloud services. Today that means a Software-defined Network or SDN?a network that?s built for cloud, one that fully embraces the simplicity and agility that open standards enable. To make the most of your new business opportunities, Software-defined Networking is essential. Without it, you?re left depending primarily on hardware and manual processes to provide the functionality needed to support cloud services. And you know that?s a costly, time-consuming approach that?s ultimately just not sustainable. No SDN = No Cloud.

What if you could provision new networks in minutes instead of hours or days?

by John Gray, Data Center Marketing Lead, HP Networking

John Gray.pngYou can probably spin up virtual machines at the drop of a hat using simple software configuration tools. But when it comes to your network, changes require reconfiguring switches, routers and firewalls. Config files are complex, and a single configuration error can damage your entire network. Managing your network becomes a bottleneck. But what if you could spin up a network the same way you spin up a VM, using software tools that manage the network configuration for you?

Viracopos International Airport turns to HP Networking for a massive, accelerated expansion

By Mary Gabra, Senior Global Manager, Customer Excellence

Mary Gabra.jpgMy blog this week is about the success of a big network initiative at a major international airport in Brazil. As you?ve probably noticed by now, I like to blog about customers that I can directly relate to ? companies that deploy HP solutions that directly impact end users like myself. Whenever I fly somewhere, the possibility of my luggage getting sent to the wrong place is a constant worry.

The logistics involved in moving people, cargo, and luggage from point A to point B are enormously complex. In any airport, the network is really the heart of the operations that enable that. If the network is down, the airport could basically freeze, right? You don?t even want to think about what might happen.
